A New Unique Treehouse Resort Is Coming to the U.S.

If hanging in a sphere dome suspended by rope 100 feet off the ground is your style of travel, then you’ll be happy to hear that the world’s only suspended sphere treehouse will be getting a home in the United States. A popular treehouse resort located in Vancouver Island has partnered with reAlpha, an investment company, to make these nature-inspired domes and bring them to California.

Treehouse Dome

Suspended by three ropes resembling a spiderweb, these works of art have been designed and created for the past 20 years by Tom Chudleigh, a creative engineer who has solely hand-crafted every single piece of the domes, including the furniture and bronze window hinges. They are designed to have a low environmental impact and ensure that tourism and conservation co-exist.

Fitted with a fisheye window for gazing into the forest and the privacy to enjoy surround sound music, these spheres are climate-controlled and feature a kitchenette, table, love seat, queen bed, and dimmable LED lights. They provide the perfect opportunity to be at one with nature and offer a different kind of stay and adventure.

Concepts similar to this have been doing well in the United States as a new group of outdoor enthusiasts emerged after the pandemic. According to a 2022 study by Penn State’s Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management, 20% more people sought out the outdoors after the pandemic, with nearly half of adults in the U.S. now participating in outdoor recreation at least once a month.

With more people turning to nature to fill in their spare time, the demand for unusual stays nestled in the wilderness has seen sharp increases. Airbnb reported an 80% increase in its Q2 earnings for nights that were booked with unique stays or experiential rentals, with domes and treehouses reflecting a growing trend for their ability to be closer to nature. There has been a lot of research that points to the health benefits of spending time in nature, with many reporting higher levels of health and happiness.

No timing is confirmed yet for when this California treehouse resort will be coming, but if you can’t make it to British Columbia, check out the 5 Treehouses that you can enjoy in the U.S. right now (that are less likely to give you vertigo):
